Mediating Role of Trust to the Manager in the Effect of Psychological Empowerment on Career Motivation: A Research on Hotel Employees in Istanbul

Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effects of psychological empowerment elements applied to hotel employees on career motivation. In addition, the relationship between psychological empowerment and career motivation and trust to the manager in the mediator relationship were examined. For this purpose, a research was conducted in 3, 4- and 5-star hotels in Istanbul. Within the scope of the research, a survey method, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was applied to the selected hotel establishments in June-July 2018 and the data were obtained through face-to-face and online techniques. The data collected from 409 hotel employees by using convenience sampling method were analyzed by using SPSS 25 and AMOS software; Descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling and mediation tests were run As a result of the study, it was concluded that psychological empowerment is related to career motivation and trust to the manager partially mediates this relationship.
