What Foreign Youtubers Think About Turkish Cuisine?

Abstract

Social media is a platform that can be easily accessed anytime and anywhere, allowing to communicate easily with any desired institution or person. Recently, various state institutions and organizations have been using social media tools to promote their countries' cultural assets globally and gain popularity, and they need feedback from these tools. In this respect, social media tools allow countries to promote their cultural elements. In this context, the aim of the study is to determine the perceptions and experiences of individuals of different nationalities who prepare content on foreign YouTube channels regarding Turkish cuisine. Within the scope of the research, content analysis, one of the qualitative research designs, was determined as a method, and document analysis technique was used to obtain and analyze the data. The data were obtained as a result of the search made on the YouTube platform with the keywords "Turkish food", "Turkish culinary culture", "Turkish cuisine", "traditional food", "tasting", "reaction". Within the scope and limitations of the study, 22 videos with 100.000 or more views were evaluated in the study. It has been determined that all of the foods and beverages of the Turkish culinary culture in the videos examined in the study consist of traditional Turkish products.
