Artificial Intelligence and Tourism: A Bibliometric Analysis on Current Situation Assessment and Future Forecasting

Abstract
Artificial intelligence has attracted considerable attention in tourism literature and applications. The aim of this study is to guide the literature on artificial intelligence and tourism by determining the topics, geographies and researchers on which research on artificial intelligence and tourism has focused between 1997-2025, through bibliometric analysis. The dataset consists of a total of 5111 studies published between 1997 and 2025, retrieved from the Web of Science database on March 12, 2025. The VOSviewer 1.6.20 program was used in the analysis of the data. According to the findings of the study; It was seen that studies on artificial intelligence and tourism continued to increase over the years and the study citations increased, and the study author with the most power in the citation network was Yogesh K. Dwivedi (711 citations). The countries that contributed the most to artificial intelligence and tourism were China (1331 publications), the United States (494 publications), and South Korea (577 publications). The organization that provided the most funding was the European Union. The universities that stood out in terms of citations were Washington State University (927 citations), Hong Kong Polytech University (917 citations), and the University of Johannesburg (894 citations).
