Abstract

Marine tourism, by incorporating both surface and underwater activities, affords visitors a
variety of experiential opportunities. Such experiences may influence life satisfaction
conceptualized as individuals’ subjective appraisal of the extent to which their lives are fulfilling.
This study examines the association between participation in sea tourism and life satisfaction
among residents of Marmaris. A simple random sampling methodology was employed. In the first phase, demographic data and frequency of tourism participation were collected; in the second phase, the Satisfaction with Life Scale was administered. The analyses revealed that individuals with higher levels of education and income, as well as those who take vacations more frequently, reported greater life satisfaction. Furthermore, elevated participation in sea tourism activities including water sports, beach visits, scuba diving, and fishing was associated with increased life satisfaction. Overall, a positive and statistically significant relationship was identified between active engagement in sea tourism and life satisfaction. In the context of Marmaris, diversifying marine tourism offerings and implementing strategies to promote resident participation may have a beneficial effect on local life satisfaction.
