The Relationship Between Calling, Meaning of Work and Happiness: A Research on Tourism Students

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions of students in undergraduate and associate degree programs of tourism towards calling, meaning of work and happiness and to reveal the relationship between these variables. The population of the research is the students who study in associate and undergraduate programs in Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University. The data used in the study were collected from the students who agreed to participate in the study with an online survey method. In the study, the data obtained from 319 questionnaires were evaluated. According to the results of the research, it was concluded that calling and meaning of work did not affect happiness. However, calling positively affects the meaning of work. It may be effective on these results that the students participating in the research do not work full time in business life. Different results can be obtained with studies to be carried out on individuals who spend a certain time in the job and tourism sector. Some suggestions for businesses and researchers are presented in the study
