Bibliometric Analysis of International Publications on Planned Behavior Theory and Tourism

Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine the status of planned behavior theory, which is widely used in explaining human behavior, in the international tourism literature with the method of document analysis in the context of descriptive analysis. For this purpose, the Web of Science database was chosen as the research area. Date range of 1970-2018 on the relevant database, "Theory of Planned Behavior" and "Tourism" words both searched and reached 176 articles were as the sample of the research article. The data were analyzed with the help of bibliometric analysis program of Citespace II. Research findings indicated that publications in this field are the most productive countries in the USA, China, Australia and South Korea and Sejong University was the first institution with 7 publications. It is understood that the author who published the most was Han and the author who received the most common reference was Ajzen. The articles were published mainly in Tourism Management. The most popular words after planned behavior and planned behavior theory were; model, attitude, tourism and intent.
